ANTON NAZARKO
Meet Anton
Anton Nazarko, born in 1981 in Alberta, Canada, is a Los Angeles-based textile artist renowned for his innovative fabric assemblages and mastery of dye techniques. His artistic journey began in his teenage years when he taught himself screen printing to create t-shirts for his skateboard crew. This early exploration of printmaking laid the foundation for his future endeavors. Â
In his early twenties, Anton acquired a 2-ton letterpress printer, delving into the intricacies of type registration and color mixing to produce stationery and art prints. Pursuing formal education, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. During this period, he balanced roles as a graphic designer and illustrator while experimenting with dyes and studying clothing construction, marking his initial foray into fashion. Â
In 2011, Anton relocated to Los Angeles to join the fashion brand Raquel Allegra. Over 13 years, he was instrumental in developing their signature handmade dye and wash program, refining his expertise in color harmony and fabric treatment. This experience honed his artistic vocabulary, emphasizing the creation of textiles and fabric assemblages. Â
Transitioning to his personal art practice, Anton founded ANZA Los Angeles, a textile-based artist studio. His work involves hand-dyeing and painting fabrics to craft custom color palettes, approaching each assemblage as a textural poem. By combining and layering various silks, he reimagines the beauty of the natural world, drawing inspiration from early 19th-century decorative arts, jewelry, and Pre-Raphaelite painting. Â
We met Anton through fellow NM Collective member Joanna Williams at the opening of his 'In Bloom' exhibition at Kneeland Co. Rarities. His series of orchids, brought to life from dyed silks, exude a feminine sensuality and communicate through color and technique. It was there that the partnership was born — and after months of sneak peeks into the dye and patch process, we’re thrilled to finally share Anton’s 'Patchwork' series. The show will be on display from February 13 through March 3, and we can’t wait for you to experience it at the opening reception. For Inquires, please contact Kneeland Co. contact@kneelandco.com
