CAROLINE BOYKIN
Meet Caroline
A celebration of creativity, connection, and shared spirit. Introducing our latest NM Collective Member, artist, Caroline Boykin.
We’re beyond excited to welcome artist Caroline Boykin to the NM Collective (and soon to LA with an opening reception at our Melrose Flagship on November 6th. Known for her layered, poetic approach to material and form, Caroline’s work will live in conversation with the Natalie Martin world - a bold new series of geometric works inspired by our very own palette.
Nat met Caroline this past May during our now-annual Natalie Martin × Vermillion trunk-show in Raleigh, hosted so generously in Caroline’s home. The two connected instantly - artist souls with shared ties to the ocean and a mutual “not-precious” energy behind work that is anything but ordinary. Welcoming Caroline into our LA space feels like a continuation of that creative spark: we got to step into her world, and now she gets to play in ours.
Raised on the Alabama coast and now based in North Carolina, Caroline’s creative journey began with pottery. After completing her BFA at Ole Miss, she returned to her hometown for a solo show- and sold every piece. With those sales, she bought her first kiln and wheel. What began in ceramics quickly evolved into a broader practice - painting, mixed media, porcelain florals, gold leaf, sculpture - and now, nearly 15 years later, she’s a full-time artist whose work lives in distinguished collections across the U.S. and is beloved by interior designers and collectors alike.
Her process is both intuitive and deeply ritualized. Most days begin in quiet, early mornings - centering herself before her young daughterswake. She paints multiple pieces at once, allowing them to speak to each other as they evolve, letting color, mark-making, and gesture form a rhythm that’s both meditative and expressive. For Caroline, the act of creation is as meaningful as the outcome. “The mark-making is just as important as the color choices, rituals, and repetition,” she shares.
Her work seeks to capture fragility in a moment - centered with what she calls a “sacred golden core.” That balance of tension and peace, softness and structure, runs throughout her layered surfaces and sculptural forms. It’s no wonder her pieces have been featured inElle Décor,Luxe Interiors + Design,Southern Living, and more - each one a timeless blend of femininity and strength.
Recent travels to Paris have also inspired a shift in her work, infusing it with a certain romance and intention that echoes French sensibility. “I’m so infatuated with the way they romanticize life and do everything with intention,” she says. You’ll see that influence in her upcoming collections.
