MARIA CRIMELLA
Meet Maria
It is with great pleasure that we introduce you to our latest NM Collective Member, Maria Crimella. A painter both in practice and in lifestyle; Maria studied Fine Art at the National University of the Arts in Argentina, but it was her participation in post graduation clinics working alongside other artists that has helped to shape her understanding of artistic practice as more than just an activity, but truly a way of life. Maria is the embodiment of this belief; that art should surround us in our daily lives - a standard woven into our being.Â
Inspired by the power art has when applied to different spaces within society, the collaboration and joy it manifests has led Maria on her path to pedagogy. Maria has been working with VERGEL since 2015 providing painting classes to those hospitalized in palliative care, and co-founded Mutante working with museums throughout Buenos Aires providing artistic activities for the community to partake in.Â
Maria’s art, commitment to an artistic lifestyle, and belief in the power that art holds as a societal connector have left us completely enamored. We are beyond excited to host Maria at our Melrose flagship next week with her textile line CRIMELLA.Â
CRIMELLA was born out of Maria’s admiration of both textiles and nature; their ability to teach us a slower way of life. Each CRIMELLA collection starts with a set of personal questions - ideations to learn from, but rather than looking for answers Maria uses thread, color, wools, and textures that embody the learning - the series the answer.Â
